Peggy Sue - Yorkshire Terrier - Hull

Post by mulan on Fri Feb 05, 2010 5:46 am

    NAME OF DOG- PEGGY SUE
BREED OF DOG - YORKSHIRE TERRIER
    SEX OF DOG - FEMALE
AGE OF DOG - 11/99,10 years old
NEUTERED/SPAYED - NO - need to see vet re suitability
    VACCINATED - yes
MICROCHIPPED - NO TO BE DONE WHEN NEW OWNER IS FOUND
    INSURED - NO BUT RECOMMENDED
OTHER DOGS - (FOSTER CARER TO UPDATE)
CATS - foster carer to update
    CHILDREN - older children
    APPROX WEIGHT -3.8 kg

Peggy Sue is an active oldie.
We will update with photos and more information very soon.

Peggy Sue is very gentle, she loves to be sat near you having a snuggle. She was fantastic yesterday when we went to the vets, very well behaved. Her vaccination records state her d.o.b as 11/99, so she is only just 10. My friend came down today and Peggy Sue jumped straight onto her knee and lay there the whole time! Everyone who meets her loves her!

Peggy Sue is about 26cm high, she doesn't like the tape measure so I'm not going to spook her! Peggy Sue is a very calm dog, she loves being sat next to you or on your knee. She is also very gentle and will make someone a fantastic companion.

Peggy Sue will take a walk with you if you would like the company but she does not 'ask' for a walk every day, she would be great for someone who had mobility issues and could not get out every day but still wanted the company. She does not pull on the lead, so again would suit anyone who was a little unsteady.

Peggy Sue has a BIG affraid little dog bark!! She only barks when someone is at the door, so is protecting you, however she will stop easily when told, and greets anyone at the door with a bit tail wag and a fuss. She also barks at the cat which comes in my garden (he tries to get into the Guinea Pigs cage and kill them - he's already got in once) Max is scared of the cat (it attacked him) but Peggy Sue has seen him off. My Guinea Pigs are eternally greatfull to her but it is a consideration if you are a cat owner. I'm allergic to cats so cannot test what she would be like with them in the house...sorry. These are the only times she barks though so she is great!

Peggy Sue has been great with my children, she was a little nervous of them at first but once she realized they would not hurt her they have been her best friends! I would say she would be great with sensible older children/visiting grandchildren. Apart from the first day nerves (completely normal) she has had no accidents and simply goes to the back door to be let out when she needs to go. She is a very 'easy to please' dog and is going to make her new forever family very happy!

    Hi Jackie

The two dogs dont rely on one another and are quite independent or each other. So the decision has been made to split them.
Obviously they have taken into account the dogs behaviour and how they interact with each other and their needs as individuals and also Helen's feedback.
There has been no interest in the pair, so we are hoping this will give them the chance to find their own forever homes.

    Hugs

Peggy Sue has started to really come out of her shell these last few days. She has started to play with toys, she loves chews and her favorite thing is to be sat next to you (she's snuggled right next to me now!)

Peggy Sue is such an easy dog, she's not too fussy, yet she is affectionate, she's calm but active. She doesn't mind being left for a few hours, yet loves your company and attention. She loves a quiet house and if it gets too busy she will just move out of the way. She is going to make a fantastic companion for her new (very lucky) forever family!

I know jackie, I have put another photo on the 'dog coats' thread which shows them better. The girls don't like the flash on my phone so I struggle to get decent photos of them (they move so quick!)

This is what I love about all our wonderful foster carers. They do such wonderful updates to tell all, where as me!!!!! Well I am crap. I have the dogs here, but assume that you all know what they are like lol! Head is usually thinking of who is coming in (4 to me this week), who is where, what vets I need to pay, where I have to go etc. Maybe I should fail my home check & let you all do what appears to be a better job than me Headbasher
Yes I know it is the same as what I wrote on Millie Maes, but I am hopeless at typing things. Cher me thinks a small Jiffy bag will suffice????? But you will have to pay for the 'special' delivery

Oh go on then, if it has to be '1st Class' then I am sure she can slum it (for a few months judging on the PO here).
I think you may have to take Helen & co to see what the 'caravan' status is like (Helen could be a freebee holiday for you & all 99 Rolling Eyes Laughing here).
Seriously now (see I can be) why not pm Helen & ask her to chuck her in the post to you????? Or I could always be 'just' going your way????
    Rolling Eyes lol!

Peggy is the perfect house guest, we have all fallen for her. She is such an easy dog. She loves the company of anyone. We were told that she was nervous of children, but I have had a house full this holiday and she has welcomed them all (all over 7 years). When she has had enough, she just goes upstairs and sleeps on my bed! Peggy is at her happiest when she is laid on my bed, enjoying the sunshine.

She barks to let you know someone is at the door (but never barks at the postman!) Once you have told her that it's okay, she welcomes them. She is not too fussy, but affectionate. She is good with other dogs, but I feel that she would be just as happy as an 'only dog'.

She will have a little play with toys (I thinks she is humouring me!) She enjoys a short walk, but isnt a dog which would mind if she misses one. She is fine when left for short periods of time and gives you a lovely welcome upon your return. She is completely house trained. Peggy and Milly came in together and as I have said on Milly Mays thread, it's time they got a chance at a new forever home before we get too attatched!!....any takers???

Well Peggy has excelled herself yet again today...I had a man come to look at my house today, he was a stranger to her, she barked at him, I said it's okay, she went back to lay on my bed and completely ignored him!

I have had 5 (yes 5!!) children for tea tonight and again she just went upstairs and laid on my bed. When some had gone she just came downstairs tail wagging and was completely settled. For an 'older' dog who hasn't had much to do with children I personally think she is brilliant. Well done Peggy Sue! (or perhaps an extra biscuit?? lol!

Deffo fried carole! More kids in tonight as well (it's Half Term affraid ) and neither of the girls are bothered by it so they would be fine going to a family environment. Thanks Maritsa, were loving having them. We will miss them like mad when they find their new homes (but happy for them at the same time!) sunny

    Cuddling a teddy.

    Group snooze

    Enjoying a bone Very Happy

Peggy is a lovely dog who will make someone a very faithful friend She is doing really well. We have increased her basic training commands and are working on the 'leave' and 'stay' ones at the moment, they are a bit 'hit and miss' but we are making progress Very Happy

Peggy can be prone to asserting her dominance over Max and Milly affraid It is not as bad as it sounds and we are working with her but she may not be suitable for a house with a very timid dog that worries. Cassie puts her in her place very quickly so she would be fine with a stronger willed dog and would be very content as an only dog. (she often takes herself upstairs to my room to get out of the way).

Peggy has also displayed a bit of nervous aggression when my friend brought her very calm, placid dog around. She was like it for a couple of days with Max and Cassie when she first came to me, it settled very quickly. We are going to keep re-introducing the dog (she wasn't worried by Peggy at all) and keep challenging this behavior. She is fine when meeting dogs on a walk (she usually ignores them) As you can see from the photos, these are only rare occurrences and the rest of the time she really is the perfect dog! Very Happy

We have had to book Peggy in to have a full dental on Wednesday next week affraid Her teeth are awful, and are really bothering her (she sleeps on a teddy bear to give her jaw comfort!) On the positive side I don't think she will have any teeth left after her trip to the vet - so her new family wont have to worry about the cost of future dentals! Other than that, the vet has given her a clean bill of health, she is a very healthy little girl. Very Happy

Peggy is back from the vets and is feeling a bit rough Sad She is all wrapped up on the settee (I have even given up my seat:shock:) She has been very brave and has had lots of teeth out affraid She has definitely got her two bottom ones left and now has a sticky-out toungue instead of a sore mouth sneer! (she looks so lovely!)

I'm sure she will feel much better after a good nights sleep Very Happy and lots of TLC! Will keep you posted x

Peggy is a bit brighter today, she was terrified of the syringe they gave me to give her her painkiller affraid I tried giving her it orally but she was far too scared. I then tried injecting the medicine into some bread but she refused to try it. She was so sore and I knew she needed it, so in the end I syringed her painkiller bit by bit into some scrambled egg Shocked (can you imagine??? lol!) Peggy seems to feel better now her pain relief is working (and I bet she is the only dog to have had liquid medicine in a scrambled egg! lol!) For the record she took her tablet antibiotic in a bit of cheese no problem - do they not do tablet painkillers??

I think all teeth she does have left are her two bottom ones, so she will feel very sore. She has had some breakfast though and is going to have some chicken and rice for her tea! Lots of TLC for Peggy!

    Peggy and Cassie

Zak walking all four at the park! (He does have a head I promise!)

Peggy is doing really well this week after her dental. She has let me have a look in her mouth and all I can see is her two front teeth, so I think that's all that she has left. This has not stopped her eating though and she is back on her normal food already Very Happy

Zak and I took the girls and Max to the park yesterday. I had all four off lead and they were all great. Peggy does not leave my side, wherever I went, she followed. Very Happy She was a little nervous when meeting new dogs and gave a little bark and growl. She is not comfortable with it but not aggressive either. After a while she got used to the other dogs and tolerated them. I am going to get them out to the park a few more times this week, it will do Peggy good to mix with lots of new dogs Very Happy
