PIPPIN - STANDARD YORKSHIRE TERRIER - HULL

Post by yorkiegirl on Sun Apr 11, 2010 9:25 am

    NAME OF DOG - PIPPIN
BREED OF DOG - STANDARD YORKSHIRE TERRIER
    SEX OF DOG - MALE
AGE OF DOG - 2 YEARS OLD
    NEUTERED/SPAYED - YES
    VACCINATED - YES
MICROCHIPPED - NO TO BE ARRANGED WHEN NEW OWNER IS FOUND
    INSURED - NO BUT RECOMMENDED
    OTHER DOGS - YES
CATS - TO BE ASSESSED BY FOSTER CARER
    CHILDREN - YES SENSIBLE ONES
APPROX WEIGHT - 5KG (TO BE UPDATED BY FOSTER CARER)
    OTHER INFORMATION -

Pippin has come into our care as his elderly owner was not able to cope with him due to his size & age. She was not his first owner if I am correct (will ask Helen01 to verify). This little man is so far an absolute gem, his recall was when arriving at Helens still in the post Rolling Eyes , but looks like Royal Mail have now found it as he is responding very well to coming back to Helen (with a bribe) Laughing He is getting on well with Max helens dog & he also bonded with Scarlett Helens friends dog that was staying with her. He is fantastic with Zac & Kieran as well sleeping with them. As far as I know he has been very clean in the house. He has a lot of energy being so young therefore would benefit a young household with possbly another dog of similar age/size to play with. He travelled well when Helen collected him sitiing on the childrens lap watching the world just pass by. I am sure that Helen will be along with one of her wonderful updates on how he is doing.

Anyone wishing to be considered for the adoption of PIPPIN is required to complete an adoption form after reading all the adoption rules & procedures please.
The adoption form can be found by clicking on the here: http://www.yorkieandtoybreedrescue.co.uk/adopting.html

    Here's Pippin!

Pippin has come from a lovely home and has been very much loved. Due to no fault of his own my house is the fourth home he is staying in....He originally lived with a very young family, then was sold to another home...who sold him when they needed money....and was then bought as a gift for an elderly lady, grieving her old dog-she just found this little man too lively. The lady's Granddaughter, Karen, will be along to join in the forum and will hopefully confirm I've got that in the right order!! Her Gran was distraught at parting with him as he has been her best friend but she had Pippins best interests at heart and wants him to find the perfect 'forever family'.

Pippin is a lovely little dog, were all smitten with him already Love3 He is a really friendly little dog with both my children and other dogs that he has met. He can be a little nervous when he meets adults but soon warms to them Very Happy He was a little bit nervous of me the first night but is now my shadow

Pippin LOVES a bath, as we discovered this morning when he JUMPED into the boys bath, had a bit of a swim affraid He then JUMPED out and ran around my house (with me trying to catch the soggy pooch! lol!) before jumping back into the bath again It was the funniest thing ever and had us all crying with laughter

I had a bit of trouble with him 'marking' the first night but we've had so many dogs in the house it must confusing with all the scents....had no problems since cheers His basic training commands are coming along really well. cheers I've had him 'off lead' at the park, he follows the other dogs so has made no attempts to run off! Very Happy With baked liver as a prompt he is learning to come back quickly when recalled Clapping Pippin is very active, he needs a family who enjoy long walks. He enjoyed playing chase with a greyhound yesterday (the greyhound lost! lol!)

He is fine left for short periods of time, although as his previous owner has never really had to leave him alone I do not think he would feel happy left for long periods of time regularly....he is an active little dog and I suspect he would fret. Rolling Eyes

I have a vision of 3 in a tub , bless him. I do hope that Karen does join as I know that he was very much loved by Grandma. Helen you are doing wonders yet again. Looks like he needs a family with a pool then
Maybe a little one might come in that would suit Grandma better?

3 in a tub was hilarious Sue! I've never experienced anything like it lol! I suggested the same to Karen as Grans devastated....see what happens next....

I think Pippin would love a family with a pool! He's a lovely little man Love1

I also forgot to mention that he has an underbite?? His lower jaw is longer than his upper jaw...It doesn't affect him in any way-just makes him look like he's laughing (or maybe he is?! Laughing )

It was the funniest thing I have ever seen-for him to jump back in too! I ended up shampooing him with dog shampoo (while the kids were in the bath Shocked affraid ) and then showering them after it! lol! They're back at school tomorrow so will keep the bathroom door shut in the morning lol!

Were loving having him, Scarlett's gone home tonight - the house seems so quiet (almost boring?) it's a good job he's here or Max would be lost

    yay, another of Archie's double.

same as Truffles, cant see this little waiting long for his new home. I know my OH would love this boy, so he can have both him and Archie to walk.

Sometimes they both flop over Love3 He has a funny little face but looks at you with the most soulful eyes Love3 Were all besotted with him Love3 He's very gentle with Max, they play lovely together. We have no sharing issues over food, toys or anything flower

He will now come when called both in the house or on the field, he will sit, leave, drop the ball (70% of the time!), almost got 'stay' today. Clapping Clapping He is not overly fussy in the house (except for the loud bark when someone knocks at the door) He does give you a lovely 'hello' when you come in though! Pippin is the perfect dog Love2

Arh bless, Helen he looks really settled! You had me creased about the bath He always sat and watched my Gran in the bath but he never jumped in

He really is a loveable little character, who was just a little too full of life for my 84 year old Gran

My Gran was sort of his 2nd/3rd owner. Let me explain; my Mum bought him from the family that just needed the money. He was really thin but appeared to be loved, he was a little nervous of newspapers but got over this at my Grans.

When my Mum picked him up for my Gran he was sitting with a nine month old baby; they had owned him about a year and got him from a so called "breeder" who kept him until he was approx 6 months old, then sold him on.

I love the photos , they are so "Pippin" , he just looks like he is smiling, bless him.

    Hi Helen
Before we apply (we're giving it serious thought)could you give us the benefit of your opinion as you know this handsome boy very well. We are a young lively family (3 dog mad kids aged 5,6 10) with a cocker spaniel bitch who has long walks daily so 'walkies' and fun would be no problem. My mother-in-law lives with us (early 70s) and is looking for a rescue yorkie to keep her company during the day when we are out at work/school. If he was walked by us etc. do you think he would make a suitable boy to do cuddles/loves during the day or would he want to be constantly on the go? Please advise.
    Thanks, Sam

    Hi Sam

Pippin is a lovely little dog who loves nothing more than a cuddle. Very Happy He is only a week into his assessment period so it's early days yet....He does settle down in the house quickly, so as long as he is walked regularly he would be fine. He also sleeps through every night without needing to get up-which is brilliant.

I am working with him on his basic training commands, most of which are coming on really well. We are also teaching him that we are in charge-which is a new one to Pippin Suspect At the moment his recall is hit and miss, but again I'm working on it and it's very early days. He is a very quick learner though.

Pippins assessment period may take a little bit longer than two weeks as both Sue and I want him to learn these things before he moves on....don't be put off by that though as he is a fantastic dog 98% of the time. I'm working on the other 2% as we speak....lol!

He has been a very well loved boy and is so gentle, we have all fallen for him He and Max have become best friends. He is brilliant with my kids-very loving. I hope that helps you, it's just a little bit too early to tell you too much accurately (as hopefully the 2% will have eased by the end of the week! lol) I will keep posting updates when I feel I know more about him and keep you all informed of his progress.

Sam has your bitch had the "op" if not this can cause some friction with a boy dog even when they have had the snip.. that is what I have read .. am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong..just thought I would mention it. Do not want to burst your bubble so to speak. It is better to know before hand

I think it depends on the dogs....Max was castrated and loved having all the ladies around him Shocked If anything he was pushed around by them...I think its just a case of making a good match. Before Max was castrated he was a nightmare with Scarlett though Embarassed

Thanks for that Helen. He does sound great and love his toothy smile. Will talk to June in the morning and see what she thinks. Should we wait until you guys say his assessment is complete before form filling? Our bitch Daisy has been speyed and gets on fine with all other dogs so should be fine. Have to confess at this point that we did put in a form for Truffles and she fit the bill perfectly but there was a huge queue and we can't have been a best match as she's now 'gone red' apparently meaning reserved, but Pippin is equally lovely perhaps just slightly bouncier. Will watch this space. Love to everyone especially if furry! X

If you have filled an adoption form in saying what sort of dog you would like already, I think if you email an interest in Pippin you will be considered along with any others.
