Sweet little yorkies although one has gone to a new home, look to me as if they have leather ear.
I wonder if it is catching, I have 2 yorkies with it and just discovered that Boon has it also.

Their ears go black and the hair stops growing, Sue told me and I also read it somewhere if you wipe over the ear with baby oil the black comes off on to the cotton wool, it can be on the very edge of the ear and bitty bits come off, the more you can get off the hair comes back again, mine have had tufty bits round the edge which just pull off, it does not cure it, I can't find out what it is the vets don't answer the questions because I have usual gone there for something else.
I don't think its a fungus, Julianne from the forum told me about something that can be used, I have not tried it yet. Actually was not sure where to get it. I will have to find the post again must do a search on the site.
Boon may have had it before he came here, so hoping its not catching.
I had another Yorkie a couple of years ago and he had it he was in a free add paper. 13yrs old.
Its the first thing I look at when I see photo's of Yorkies it just seems to stand out for me.

I had a problem with this years ago with some of my yorkies, tried washing, moisturiser, and other things then I read somewhere to use tea-tree cream, it fetched the black off and the hair grew back on the ears. The trick is if you see the black in the hair is not to scrape it off as the hair comes with it. I'm not sure if anyone has actually come up with a reason as to what causes it or why some dogs get it and others dont.

I have to go back to the vets again this week will see if I can find out from them, not asked them before.

If not I will find a place a pet teaching hospital, I think there is one in Cambrige, and see if they know.

Scooby has found his forever home with myself and Jenny...but we have renamed him Alfie. He is answering to his new name and has made himself right at home.
When he first arrived he had such a sad, sad face but he now looks very happy and content.
He is a joy to have in the house; calm, kind, sweet...he seems to be trying very hard to understand everything around him. His first action was to sit in each of our laps and stare us all in the eye for a good long time...it was very unusual but he was really checking us all out.

Now, we are in search of a little girl to be a companion for Alfie.

P.S. He did have Leather Ear. We cleaned off both ears with tea tree oil on a cotton pad and all the black came off. His ears are a rich brown...now we wait for the hair to grow in.

I am so glad Scooby has found his forever home with you. I hope you will all be really happy with him and a friend when one comes along.

I also have used tee tree oil for leather ear and the hair grew back, after a while it has come back to haunt me.

The hair on my yorkies ear were devoid of hair to start with, when I got him at 11 he now is 13. Another yorkie from a rescue has it slightly. The vet I spoke to recently not really interested as its not making them ill or anything.

I have also got a tiny jack russel cross with it, I wondered if there was something wrong with the hair folicle (not sure if thats what I mean)

Just an update on Alfie (aka. Scooby) and how he's doing.

It was obvious that Alfie had not been out and about very much. His muscle tone was non-existant, the pads on his feet were extremely thin and there was no wear on his toenails...so it was into the harness an we hit the bricks. He is so happy to be walking everywhere and meeting new people and dogs. The first thing we noticed about him was his confidence. When we approached large dogs on leads, he acted as though they didn't exist and kept forging ahead with his eyes focused beyond them, absolutely no interest or fear. Once he got the hang of walking, he set his nose to work and was in doggy heaven.
He has been to the park twice a day, everyday and has really come out of his social shell. He now observes and sizes up any potential aquaintence, then approaches with total confidence when he is certain of his reception. If he isn't certain he goes back to the ignoring them and gets on with his own business.
Yesterday morning he met a collie playing fetch with his human...after wandering around and watching this phenomenon Alfie promptly snagged the ball and ran off. He gave it back and spent another 20 minutes trailing in the wake of the collie chasing the ball. I bought him some mini Kong squeeky tennis balls and took him out that afternoon and I now have a fetching machine...he loves it!
I do have pictures but cannot figure out how to put them in the right format to post them here. I'll find a way and let you all see his 'before and after' forever home makeover pics.

What a joy this little fella is for us. We're all just crazy for him Very Happy
