LUCY - YORKSHIRE TERRIER - DERBYSHIRE

Post by yorkiegirl on Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:08 am

    BREED OF DOG - LUCY
    SEX OF DOG - FEMALE
AGE OF DOG - 10 YEARS OLD
    NEUTERED/SPAYED - YES
    VACCINATED - YES
MICROCHIPPED - YES TO BE CHANGED WHEN NEW OWNER IS FOUND
    INSURED - NO BUT RECOMMENDED
    OTHER DOGS - YES
    CATS - YES CONFIDENT ONES
    CHILDREN - NO
APPROX WEIGHT - TO BE UPDATED BY FOSTER CARER
APPROX HEIGHT TO SHOULDER - TO BE UPDATED BY FOSTER CARER

Poor little Lucy has come into our care as her owner passed away & the family already have large breed dogs & a very busy schedule both of which they felt was not fair on Lucy as she was so used to a bit of peace & quiet.
She has had all her teeth sorted & vaccinations now done. She has a spot of bother with her back legs so will go to the vets to see what it is, however Sally has spoken to the family (see below) She is with Aunty Sallyc at the moment and this is what Sally has sent to me so far.

With regard to Lucy's back leg it is still causing her trouble and I wonder if in fact it is her hip and not her leg which is the problem. I have spoken to her previous carers at the weekend (they rang me on my mobile to see if she is OK and when she is going on the website). Apparently she has hobbled on and off for some time but not enough for them to get her to a vet and they thought it might be their gravel drive she found difficult! They also had noticed she was having increasing difficulty in getting on and off the sofa.
Just an update on the lovely Molly 2 who is an absolute delight and is totally a part of my household and very much at ease with my daughters houseful of dogs, cats and children. She was excited when I brought Lucy home and wanted to play but, although they are the same age I think Lucy is a bit of a diva and saw her off! She gets plenty of play with the children and my daughters young dogs when I'm there 2-3 days weekly.

Forgot to mention that Lucy is a brilliant traveller and coped with the 7 hour journey from Scotland and another hour to Derbyshire after I collected her last week. Loves the car and settles down straight away.
A nice quiet home is what we will be looking for so Lucy can get lavished with lots of attention.
Pictures to follow as soon as Sally can.

Before an application is made please read the following carefully:
Please do not apply for the dog unless you have the funds to pay the donation fee, We do not have the facility to hold dogs in our care until the prospective owners have the funds to adopt the dog.

Only apply for the dog if you intend to travel to the fosters carers location, We do not deliver dogs or allow a third party to collect, the adoptor/s must travel to view the dog.

Anyone wishing to be considered for the adoption of LUCY is required to complete an adoption form after carefully reading all the adoption rules & procedures please.
The adoption form can be found by clicking here: http://www.yorkieandtoybreedrescue.co.uk/adopting.html

Lucy has been microchipped but will need to be registered in new owner's name. She is fine with cats and mainly ignores them and is also fine with children but does likes to be handled on her terms; she is a very appealing and cute looking little girl which small children find irresistable and would therefore be better with older sensible children; she is also an older lady and should be treated with respect!
I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow to see if we can get her leg sorted. Like her former carers it hasn't been enough to worry me a lot but does need to be looked at.
Lucy has been a very loved girl in her lifetime, by her mum and dad and then by their family. She deserves a lovely home in her twilight years and is such a character will bring lots of joy and laughter to her new family.
Her dad was in the habit of giving her 4 Shapes after her last bedtime wee which were put on the floor for her and while family have been looking after her they followed this routine ;when she arrived I did too and the little monkey turns up her nose at the Shapes but aroud 9-10 when all the dogs have been out she does a little war dance and has switched her allegiance from Shapes to Mini Jacks or a few cubes of Nature Diet - onviously fancied a change!

Further update on little Lucy. The vet wants to see if Metacam helps alongside supplements for longer term effect. She is fully mobile but obviously experiences some discomfort in varying degrees with her left hind leg. Examination and history would suggest arthritis and he doesn't want to carry out unnecessary tests without giving the Metacam time to kick in fully - she's only been in foster for just over a week. Her second vaccination is due in a week and he will re-examine her then.

Lucy weighs 4.75 kgs.and is very active although at the moment is having gentle on lead walks. She's a little reserved with strangers but takes her lead from Molly, who isn't!She is now becoming very affectionate and seeks attention, not as a lap dog but she likes to snuggle beside me in the evenings and I find her sleeping next to me in the morning in preference to her own bed.

Are there any pictures of Lucy please and can we please have any updates on how her legs are responding to treatment. She is still a youngster at 10, seven of our doggies are over that age and are still leaping about like spring chickens so come on Lucy we are all rooting for you.

Lucy is an absolute gem and is full of beans! She's still hobbling but her movements are quick and she doesn't show any sign of pain. T o vets this morning for 2nd. vacc.; will send Sue some pics from my camera phone as still can't find my proper one and am still reluctant to buy a new one until I've searched everywhere.
Lucy is quite a youngster compared to my usual fosters age and I've currently got 2 adoptees aged 14 and one of 13, and the lovely Molly 2 who is 10. All of them are very sprightly and the 13 year old dalmation x behaves like a teenage hooligan!

Lucy is an absolutely wonderful little girl, full of character and a very joyful little dog. She asks to go out
when she needs to and is a joy in the car. My grandchildren have walked her and she is fine being handled. She does the sweetest little twirling dance when the leads come out and is a very intelligent and obedient girl. I have been trying to get in touch with Sue as although she has been on Metacam for a few weeks it is having little effect on her leg/hip and I think she may need some further tests.I'm only giving her gentle lead walks at present to minimise the stress on her joints although she gives no indication of pain.
I have sent Sue 2 photos of her on the camera phone a week ago and I will get my son in law to download them onto the computer so I can send some more, he's been away in America and I am useless at technical stuff!

Lucy is absolutely full of beans and is very mobile although she still hobbles on her gammy leg after a walk. The metacam has stopped as it had little effect. A lovely home has come up with an elderly lady with another old yorkie and I am taking Lucy down to meet them at the weekend and do the homecheck at the same time.
She's going to the groomers today and is currently lying next to me with Molly 2 having had breakfast and then polished off the cats leftovers as well!

Little Lucy went to her forever home on Saturday. She was an absolute gem on the journey and was beautifully behaved meeting her new mum and Bluey, a very elderly but sprightly yorkie who was rescued by Jean 4 years ago.Two of Jean's daughters had been waiting with her for us to arrive and took both dogs round the block and commented on how well behaved Lucy was, meeting a few of the neighbourhood littlies (lots of bungalows with older ,small dog owning residents!)and a lovely park nearby.
I stayed for a bit to see her settled and when I left she was being thoroughly spoilt in another room with lots of treats as she was keeping a weather eye on me when I was getting ready to leave! A wonderful little dog and I'm sure Jean will have many years of happiness with her - Bluey was very excited to have a new friend and I couldn't have wished for a happier ending for Lucy.

I love it when the Fosters get a forever home but I also feel sad for the wonderful Fosterers who care for the dogs and then have to let them go.

Good luck and best wishes to little Luci and her new parents.
