Toby is with Aunty Helen at present.
This is what she has so far observed.

Toby came into the rescue on Wednesday evening after his old owners were concerned with Toby chewing their lino and felt that as elderly people Toby needed a more stimulating environment. While he has been staying with myself I can report that we have had no unwanted chewing issues at all.

Toby is a delightful young dog. At 18 months old he is a very timid, gentle boy and will need a quiet home that has experience of rescue dogs. Toby is learning slowly to play and I feel that with time and gentle encouragement Toby will become the perfect dog. He is very clever and is constantly learning. As Toby's confidence grows we are going to begin learning basic training commands but at the moment he is learning through observing the others. I do feel however that Toby needs a home where another dog is present to give him the confidence to enjoy being a young dog.

Toby is gaining confidence on a lead, he doesn't stray far and I feel that in time his recall will be perfect, I only keep him on lead at he moment in case a loud noise startles him. He has fit in really well with the pack here, initially he did show some fear aggression but this soon went and he is friendly with all the dogs. He is prone to a bout of nerves when meeting strangers or new dogs and does submit and 'fear pee' in this situation. He soon overcomes this though and has been clean in the house (other than the fear peeing).

Toby has been fine with my boys but seems to prefer older teenagers or adults to young children. * At present my vet feels that we should give Toby the chance to gain confidence before we castrate so we will discuss it again with the vet when he goes back again in a fortnight. Toby is a very handsome young dog and I know with time and love he really will make someone VERY happy.

Before an application is made please read the following carefully:
Please do not apply for the dog unless you have the funds to pay the donation fee, We do not have the facility to hold dogs in our care until the prospective owners have the funds to adopt the dog.

Thank you both for your interest in Toby, he is a real sweetie. Everyone who meets him falls for him. He is really starting to play now and loves playing with Maisy (9 weeks) and Marley (1 year). I do feel that he would benefit from being homed with an active dog who will teach him how to have fun, act his age and give him security and confidence.

Please will you both fill in application forms for Toby and when his two week assessment period is over I'm sure that Sue (yorkiegirl) will give them all due consideration to match him to his perfect home for you both Very Happy

Toby will soon get a new home, He is a very handsome Yorkie. I wish I could have him but Mr Grumps says no more dogs the two we have are enough and he cannot fit anymore on to his knee.
Do you take Grumpy men in part exchange?.

Toby is settling in really well cheers He is still a very nervous dog but is growing in confidence daily. cheers
Toby has become best friends with Marley (1 year) and Maisy (10 weeks) both dogs are really helping him to learn how to play. Toby loves playing chase with them and charges around the garden playing tug Very Happy
He is 99% housetrained, accidents are rare and only seem to be if scared (fear-pee) or left alone (rare and may not be him but some-one is doing it :suspect:lol!)

Toby is a real pleasure to foster and is such a good boy Love1 He is going to make someone a very faithful companion.

Fill in an application form anyway if you're really that keen. Toby is probably still undergoing his assessment phase and I'm pretty sure Maisy isn't ready to go just yet.

Toby's two week assessment period has come to an end and I can say that he is doing really well cheers He is still a very timid dog but is becoming more trusting each day Very Happy

The fear peeing is still present when I put his lead on for a walk and when I call him in from the garden (I have to move away from the door before he will come through it). I reward both things with a small treat once he has lead on/come through the door, ignoring the puddle beside him.

He can be a bit of a yapper when someone knocks at the door or barking when he hears the neighbours. I call him and tell him to stop and then the squirty water comes out. This works really well and I'm sure in time this will stop cheers

He gets on well with all of the dogs, especially Marley and Maisy. He is fab walking on a lead and in time he will be good off lead. I have started leaving him off lead for a short time and he plays well with the other dogs - after a bit he becomes distracted and then starts to wander, I just put him back on lead when he reaches that time Very Happy

Toby needs a home where someone will be home most of the day as he doesn't really like being left. I do work part-time and have been giving the pooches a small bone or kong when I go out and this seems to help. Toby would need another resident dog to play with as he has always lived with another dog.

He is quite an active/bouncy dog so would be better suited to a family with a younger playful dog. He is fine with sensible children but would probably be too active/nervous around very small children. He does prefer the company of adults though so children are not essential for his forever home.

Toby is booked in for castration on Monday Shocked Will let you know how he gets on....

Well Toby has been growing in confidence so much this week that he has paid a trip to the vets this morning for a 'little' operation affraid He looked very sad when I left him there but I'm sure he will be fine when I collect him later on today Very Happy

Toby is still a very gentle little dog, he is great on a lead and his recall is good (will be even better after today ) lol! He now enjoys human company and knows that people are kind. The fear peeing is less and less now cheers

Toby seems to enjoy human company so much and can now become a little jealous (nothing major-just pushes the other dogs out of the way so he can have the first hug, cuddle, treat etc.) Because of this and his new confidence in humans I now think he would be fine going as an only dog or with a young confident other dog. He does not like being left though and although he doesn't cry for you he does leave you a protest wee upon your return Suspect He would benefit from having a forever family where somebody was usually home all day.

Well we are almost a week in now and Tobi (now AKA Bertie) is settling in very well. He is getting used to his new environment. Our biggest achievement is that he will now confidently go to bed in the kitchen at night, knowing that we have not left or abandoned him. He's an absolute star, he is very clean in the house and walks so well on the lead. We can even let him off the lead and he will not wander or run off. I know he just wants a lot of love and you can rest assured he will get loads and loads.
He comes to work with me and sits under my desk at my feet. He does get a bit fractious if I get up and disappear for a few minutes to another room, but I feel sure that after another week or two he will begin to feel more secure. He is booked into the hairdressers on Tuesday, so that will be another hurdle but I can stay with him whilst he is being done so that he feels safe.

Had a lovely phonecall with Norma tonight Very Happy Bertie has settled in really well and they are really happy with him cheers They are going to book him in for training classes now that he's settled in. He's very much a 'people dog' and not over keen on other dogs now, so a little training may be required. Norma will send me some piccies through soon so that we can see how he's doing Very Happy
