HONEY - YORKSHIRE TERRIER - HIGH PEAK, DERBYSHIRE

Post by yorkiegirl on Sat Oct 16, 2010 8:15 am

NOW RESERVED - HOME CHECK PASSED - PENDING MEETING

    NAME OF DOG - HONEY
BREED OF DOG – YORKSHIRE TERRIER
    SEX OF DOG - FEMALE
    AGE OF DOG – 4 YEARS OLD (D.O.B. 24/08/2006)
NEUTERED/SPAYED – NO (BOOKED IN FOR FRIDAY)
VACCINATED – YES (BOOSTER DUE DATE 21/11/2010)
MICROCHIPPED – NO TO BE DONE WHEN NEW OWNER IS FOUND
    INSURED - NO BUT RECOMMENDED
    OTHER DOGS – YES
CATS – TO BE UPDATED BY FOSTER CARER
CHILDREN – YES OLDER SENSIBLE ONES
APPROX WEIGHT – 5KGSAPPROX HEIGHT TO SHOULDER - 10” APPROX

Honey belonged to a family member who bought her as a pup but her resident cats left home and she was rehomed with another family member who had 2 yorkies. This family are now foster carers for the local authority and are feeling the strain of meeting the needs of 3 dogs, their own children and very young foster children.

They do not have any cats, but when she has met them in the garden she will chase, however, in a recent encounter with the family rabbit she got her ears boxed by it and didn't retaliate! It was assumed she wasn't cat friendly.

It may have been that in her first home the cats couldn't cope with a lively pup rather than because of any aggression on her part. She is a gentle. sweet, playful little girl and completely safe with children. She came into my house and had a little grumble at the dogs because she was a bit nervous at their enthusiastic welcome but this quickly settled down. She has met my 4 cats and largely ignored them and I use them as a guide with any new dogs and they have shown no anxiety around her. At one point this evening I had 2 yorkies and 3 cats crammed on the sofa with me!

Honey was a bit tired after her long day today but after a good sleep is now bouncing around. She travelled perfectly in the car and has clearly been a very loved little girl.I'll get her off to the vet on Monday and book her in for spaying in the next week or two once she's had a chance to settle down.

Before an application is made please read the following carefully:
Please do not apply for the dog unless you have the funds to pay the donation fee. We do not have the facility to hold dogs in our care until the prospective owners have the funds to adopt the dog.

Sorry, but we do not give out the exact location of the dogs, as they live in homes with foster carers & cannot have people just turning up at the door. If you are expressing an interest in Honey please complete an adoption application form which along with the otheres will be forwarded on to Sally for her to make a decision, however this will not be made until Honey has completed her minimum 2 week assessment period.

I think Honey is just adorable, and have submitted an Adoption Form.

I am now actively looking to adopt. I have not done so before because I have been looking after my darling Sadie, a little terrier cross, who developed liver cancer. I wanted to give her all my love and attention for her remaining time. She lost her fight against the cancer a few weeks ago. I now only have Foxy, another terrier cross bitch, and we find the house very lonely!

I lost my old rescue Yorkie, Minnie, exactly a year ago, so October does not seem to be a very good month for me! Sad

This wonderful intelligent little girl has completely stolen my heart and in 3 days has settled down very quickly which bodes well for transferring to a new family when the time comes.
She absolutely loves to cuddle and just wants to be with someone all the time, but equally loves her walks and travels beautifully in the car - which is more than can be said for Molly2 who can get out of any car harness and gets very excited in the car!She largely ignores the cats and they are comfotable around her. She can be a little grumbly around strange dogs if they are crowding her but this is perfectly natural and she quickly settles down.
She's going to meet my lovely vet this afternoon, who will be a little surprised that I have anything under the age of 10 - usually older! She appears to be completely house trained - if that sounds odd its because she doesn't like to go out in the garden on her own, doesn't always perform but there is no evidence in the house of any accidents, but she will go when on a walk. By yesterday afternoon she was pottering around my daughters garden with the other dogs so again, I think she just needs to be a bit more confident.
She sleeps on the sofa and on the bed - sorry - and will also sleep on a rug near my feet; she apparently shared a bed with the other yorkies in her old home but has not shown any interest in the assorted beds/baskets etc. in my house. As I'm typing she and Molly2 and my oldest cat are all asleep around my feet. I'm working tomorrow so she will be left with the others although the cats will be shut upstairs as this is a rule of mine with any new arrival until I am happy to leave them when I'm not in the house. My son in law is going to download some photos tonight for me. I've given up looking for my lost camera and am going to treat myself this weekend!

Honey went to the vet today for a check up and is booked in for spay a week on Friday. She weighs just 5 kgs. and is in good condition. As anticipated my vet and all the nurses couldn't stop telling her how cute she is etc. etc.even when the vet was examining my sweet Molly!
Honey is full of beans and bouncing around but does like her quiet time to recharge her batteries.
    Will update soon.

Hi - we so delighted - we are going to be rehoming a boy border terrier called Brewster - he a real cutie - he 4 years old, housetrained, knows several commands, good in car, etc etc.

Please could you therefore remove my adoption request for Honey - but we will still be following her story and wishing her well.

No, Honey isn't a barker, unlike her friend Molly2!
