Post by yorkiegirl on Wed Oct 20, 2010 5:38 am

This is the time when I am back in with the dogs & they are all in the kitchen filling their faces.
There have been some really nice looking meals on there.

    Have you tried a recipe

Post by AndySmith on Sun Jan 02, 2011 9:07 pm

    Hi,

I watch Jamie and think a lot of what he does is good compared to some of the tv chefs who think everyone can afford megga expensive ingredients!

I have tried a few of his recipes and found them quite good, the lat one was the panchetta ice cream with fruit then topped with loads of choc.

There have been a lot of complaints with the 30 min meals, some are taking 90mins, its been in our newspapers.

Sainsbury's had some cards with recipes on, I am sure some of them are his, one group of them was Feed your family for a Fiver and some of them are really good. One was A sausage and Veg Hot pot, Beef stew with herb dumplings is another,I have quite a few in small folders, I have about 60 of this range, all ingredients are listed and how much they are.
They are still doing the cards in a stand all free. Things like luscious leeks, apple crunch, sexy swedes.

Also a Kids stuff range for them to help 'White mice graveyard another Spooky spiderweb soup and others involving children.
How to make Perfect pesto, Squash, sage & parmesan mash, some come under the 'Simple side' heading.
I think now it will cost more than a Fiver as the cost of food has gone up.
Jamey is the face of Sainsburys and his photo is on some of them.

The pancheta ice cream was easy to make, perhaps you should give it a try Cowboyz it took me 20 mins. I made a giant jaffa cake, all fresh including the jelly, now that did take a lot of prep! 2 hours!
Agree that some of his recipes take longer to do than he says, but then again he is a chef so what takes him 30 mins may well take a novice 2 hours lol. what I feel he is doing with his feed your family for a fiver is trying to re-introduce old fashioned trad cooking which because of the ready made meals sold by the supermarkets many of us have lost the ability to do.
The problem I feel is that due to people hectic lives, many do not have the time to do home cooking which is a shame in my eyes. But that said we would all be better off if we did do more home cooking as the costs of supermarket food is going through the roof. Firms like Sainsbury's are very expensive.
If they too were to go back to old fashioned packaging instead of fancy cartons some stuff tripple packed to make it last longer we would have to pay less. The supermarkets control the food prices as a stock. Perhaps Jamie should look at changing this so people can afford good quality ingrediants?

We only have Sainsburys here or have to travel at least 5 miles away, I must admit we are now buying some of the basic range foods because of our budget now. Also make straight for the reduced shelves before shopping.

We have a farm shop closer to us which we use sometimes that is also more expensive and no packaging, they sell most things and even have a butcher there now, it used to be a small concern and the more people have visited and they have got well known they have expanded over the years, their bread is much nicer than the supermarkets, that comes from a bakery out of the area.
Anyway I like Jamey and his attempt to get people cooking fresh food.
I think it was his latest book that people were complaining of the length of time his recipes took.

Of course you can cowboyz lol lol!

Have a new recipe I want to try out and victims are always welcome lol hey in saying that the sauce that went with the jaffa cake was great!! when the dark choc has melted in the pan add same quantity of cream then grate fresh orange zest into it. Now if you let this set in a fridge it is like a choc orange dip. Horrid

Regarding Jamie, I feel what he is trying to do despite his adverts for sainsbury's is great but he does not get the support he needs. the food for schools is great but a lot of schools have slid back into old ways which is a shame. I fully support home cooked good English food though I must admit I do love to cook Indian and Italian.

talking low fat food and healthy, has anyone tried the cider vinegar in a cup of warm water mixed with honey? It is supposed to be good for your joints, but I found it great for weight loss as well in fact without a diet, lost weight and kept it off

i love my slow cooker..well i do when i am well..
the smell of beef slowly cooking all day in there makes my mouth water..

i use shin of beef, a packet of frozen casserole vegeable, 2 cans of oxtail soup and if i want to add any root veg i might have left from another meal i add that alos..make sure it is all covered by liquid . sometimes i even add the potatoes and add more oxtail soup and water if needed..cook it all day turn it of at 4 o clock..sometimes eat it that day..but i prefer it the next day warmed through..as the meat is just so perfect as it melt.. I buy crusty bread and dig in..

any left i whizz up with one of the stick blenders or a potato masher..and I often need to add more water to it..and voila you have a lovely thick soup..for the next days tea..] making my mouth water..but i know at the moment it would overface me and put me off eating..
