CELIA HAMMOND ON BB2 TONIGHT AT 9PM

Post by rosalie on Tue Oct 26, 2010 3:05 am

When I hve been to Celia Hammonds Charity Vets in the last couple of months, they have had some filming going on there.

Tomorrow night on BBC 2 at 9pm the Programme 'Wonderland-Mad Cats and Englishwomen' will be on

About 2 women who care for London's stray cats.

One is Celia Hammond and other is Pat who I think have also seen in the clinic feeding really tiny kittens whist being a receptionist also, not 100% until I watch it myself.

Don't forget Celia Hammond on tonight BBC2 9pm London's stray cats.

Celia Hammond used to be a model in the 60's.

Saves lots of strays at her clinic all spayed etc and found new homes, the ferrel ones are returned to the wild.

I am not a cat person, this programme was so sad especially at the end, That is where I take some of my dogs and recognised Iris the receptionist, it was Iris I have seen feeding tiny kittens, Celia, Pat the cat lady who had been in a few times while I was waiting to be seen, also the vet lady I have seen her, I missed the 1st 15 minutes.

It is really cramped in there, we have been waiting when a delivery arrived, and they enlisted the men who were waiting to help bring loads and loads of cat food, litter etc in from the lorry, and store in the waiting room.

Im watching this programme at the moment, its on BBC2 11.20-12.20 and its very sad. Crying or Very sad ...but interesting to.

Things a getting out of hand with all the unwanted and abandoned animals in the U.K its about time new legislation was brought out to neuter/spay and maybe licence all pet owners scratch
Dont know what else to say...

It left me feeling so helpless and full of despair, so sad yet makes me more determined never to give up on any animal..They need us all....

She looks like that all the time, the last time I saw her was on the news trying to catch all the strays where they are building the Olympic stadium near Stratford.
The company used to let her put the cat cages in a particular place then allow her access to collect them, security was very tight.

She (and her staff) are doing a wonderful job...but they're only just getting to the tip of the iceberg. I find it very sad that people can treat animals (especially cats it seems) as something they can want one minute and not the next. I always thought that when you decided to get a pet it was a lifetime choice....not something you do on a whim. Thank goodness for people like Celia who have a genuine love and concern for animals.

Those two little kittens who were infested with fleas (near the end of the programme) just about broke my heart....

Hello everyone, just popped on. I'll try catch up with this programme on iplayer, it sounds interesting.

I sometimes help out a local cat rescue, but they are having to close down as they are getting inundated with problems at the moment and cannot cope any more. So many people ring up to say they have 4/5/6 cats that they really love, but they are being evicted from their home/splitting up from partner/emigrating tomorrow, and will the rescue take them in or they will have to be put down. If they really loved their pets they would make arrangements well in advance, not just expect animal rescue groups to be able to take them in with no notice.

Still, I suppose it's better than just dumping them as some do. Talking of which, I nearly had a temporary doglet to foster tonight - a little yorkie that had been dumped in the village. She has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum, and has been sorted now.

I've got a cat here at the moment who came in pregnant and had 6 kittens. They are very beautiful: 3 grey, 1 black, 1 black & white, 1 grey and white.

Hope you are all well, and coping. Love from Liz

    Hiya Jackie,

They are 5 weeks old now, and have grown so much since you were here. Two are spoken for. We had a scarey moment, a couple of weeks ago, after I'd given the mother Drontal. Her legs went, she couldn't walk, kept falling over. At first I thought it was calcium deficiency, so rushed her and the kittens to the vets. The blood test was clear, so then I was terrified it might be FIP. Anyhow, next morning she was fine. Turns out some cats have a reaction to the Drontal. They don't tell you that on the packet! The vet rang Bayer the company to let them know.

I was very relieved, as I thought I was going to be hand-rearing 6 kittens.

I have just finished watching this ... Wiping tears out my eyes now, those poor kittens at the end , my god did I bawl.

I just wish everyone in the country could watch this and make their heart ache and think about the state this country is in with abandoned animals.

My cats use to go to celia Hammond in lewisham, and the place was always rammed with people dumping their cats on them.
I had a huge row with a eastern European in thier once who's poor cat had loads of litters and now was no good to her. The cat was only 3 years old.

The receptionist actually thanked me for being a normal person.

The people who do this are largely the dole ites who don't wanna work etc.. You get my drift.

If only wayne Rooney could donate a weeks wages, you know his new 250 k a week salary to this place can you imagine what help that could do. Well with all rescues really.

Jeez don't think I can sleep tonight I am that upset watching that.

It makes me so cross that people don't get their cats neutered. They can save so many problems.

Well I have decided I am not even going try to catch up on iplayer. It isn't me that needs educating its as exactly as ellejay said. I am NOT a snob but I teach the adults of tomorrow, the offspring of today. 98% of kids are 'normal' but it isn't those which worry me. This attitude to animals goes back generation after generation just like the whole families that have never worked. Oh dear....I am ranting again and preaching to the converted! Sorry Sad

Being an animal lover i find it so hard to see how others cant love animals like we do.

There was a lady on there ( and she was a wrong un ) who had a kitten and just letting it roam around by the main road, Pat the rescue lady told her off and told her to keep the kitten inside, then she got all arsey and threw the kitten at the rescuer.
She has no intention of looking after and caring for that kitten, no vacs, no collars, no microchips, no flea treatments, no spaying etc etc.. they probally wouldnt even cuddle the little thing, so why have one ??

    Makes me so so mad.

And these kind of people are everywhere, and its getting worse, thank god for us animal lovers out there, Celia Hammond and many many rescue workers are just total angels.

I watched it just now on iplayer. It made me cry too.

There was a woman on there bringing her cats in to be rehomed as she was going away. She was bawling her eyes out and asking if they could be fostered and she could have them back when she gets back and saying how much she loved them. Well, if she really loved them, why didn't she put them into a cattery, where they would be looked after till she came back? Oh yes, I know why, she would have to pay that's why! Urrrggghhh it makes me maaaaad!

I missed the beginning of this. It shows a little of the heartache and things that go on in rescues.
