    JOEY - WESTIE X - LINCOLNSHIRE

Post by yorkiegirl on Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:22 am

    NAME OF DOG – JOEY
BREED OF DOG – WESTIE X
    SEX OF DOG - MALE
AGE OF DOG – 2 YEARS OLD
    NEUTERED/SPAYED – YES
    VACCINATED – YES
MICROCHIPPED – YES TO BE CHANGED WHEN NEW OWNER IS FOUND
    INSURED - NO BUT RECOMMENDED
    OTHER DOGS – YES
    CATS – NO
    CHILDREN – SENSIBLE OLDER CHILDREN
APPROX WEIGHT – 12 KGS (APPROX)
APPROX HEIGHT TO SHOULDER – 12”

I have had Joey for a year now and love him dearly. However, he is quite a strong boy and I feel he would be better with a more active family. He is clean and semi-trained to behave. He comes when called but if he sees another dog he forgets everything else. He is very friendly and wants to get to everyone he sees. He tends to bark at other dogs when he is on the lead and doesn’t like people walking in front of HIS house!!

He gets on well with Teddy and has done with all the fosters I have had over the last year so can be housed with another dog.. He is not cat friendly. He does ‘mouth’ at people as a greeting and some think he is biting but he has never bitten anyone since I have had him. He is a very laid back dog and has stayed with various other fosterers when I have had to go away with no complaints. He does I feel need a firmer hand than I give and could do with some training which will keep his attention.

Before an application is made please read the following carefully:
Please do not apply for the dog unless you have the funds to pay the donation fee. We do not have the facility to hold dogs in our care until the prospective owners have the funds to adopt the dog.
Only apply for the dog if you intend to travel to the fosters carers location. We do not deliver dogs or allow a third party to collect the adoptor/s must travel to view the dog.

Anyone wishing to be considered for the adoption of JOEY is required to complete an adoption form after carefully reading all the adoption rules & procedures please. Please be aware that you will only be called if you have been chosen to adopt, we do NOT call every applicant
The adoption form can be found by clicking here: http://www.yorkieandtoybreedrescue.co.uk/adopting.html

What is he crossed with then, I always thought he was pure westie?

He sounds just like archie in the barking at other dogs when out and at window.

Is he definalty not cat friendly ????

I love westies, and would love him... Does he moult as he is a cross ??

He is mostly Westie - but has some apricot colouring. He's not too bad at Sue's but does chase the cat next door. He sheds very little.

I received this from rick, Mandy and Emma yesterday

    Hi Jackie,

Joey is fine - really making himself at home. I didn't know whether you wanted updates or if it would keep reminding you of him - happy to send as little or as much as you want. We've got some photos on the camera that I keep meaning to offload and put on the thread on the forum.

He's gradually settled in and getting bolder. For the first few days he didn't make much noise at all. Now he will bark at people who come to the door, or just randomly at things he thinks are outside That said, he's not a nuisance at all - and he can't really see the road, so doesn't bark at cars.

He's getting 2 walks a day - usually 3 miles or so total. He's settling into our routine - spends the evening on someone's lap, snoring - or playing with us and his toys. Then a spin around the garden and he takes himself off to bed as we're closing up. On the first night, Mandy had a problem with her blood sugar and had to come downstairs at 2am. Joey barked a couple of times, then went back to bed. We never hear a peep from him overnight otherwise.

During the day, he's been supervising the decorator who's been here (but finished today) or following me around. He's commandeered a chair we have by our stairs so he can sleep in that whilst keeping an eye on the goings on. We don't allow him on the chairs in the lounge (unless invited up) - but he occasionally tries it on when he thinks we're not around

We've spoken to a friend who has a westie that she takes to agility classes to get some help on training Joey for when we meet other dogs. We're going to start training him and may take him to the agility classes.

Emma has a friend with a labrador, and the two dogs have met and go walking together (though we've not yet let Joey off the lead for fear of him disappearing after squirrels - which seem to be his favourite thing to chase around here!).

He's been over to the vets for his booster - Kirks have a branch at Londonthorpe which is very close to us. Joey was completely unphased by his visit (though he did manage to pee on their scales!).

Emma bought him a new collar ('one for a boy')

Yes, he's the wrong colour. Has like an apricot hue to his coat on his back and not quite the correct shape but who cares he's still lovely

... I think of Joey as a kind of 'foster brother' of Georges (our Tibetan Terrier X, who we got from the YT & TB rescue) so am really pleased he is settling in well after learning he had gone to a new family.

... when my partner Jess heard about it she said we should have taken Joey! (reunite the two old friends) though it might have been a bit too much for our cat affraid cat affraid

George loves Westies and Westie types - whenever he spies one in the distance he rushes over.

Do you think he hopes one day it might be Joey, his old 'roomy' ????

Happy Christmas to everyone - and all the best for 2011.

Joey has had a great day - lots of supervising of present unwrapping, followed by a long walk. Lots of dinner to 'bisto', then new toys to play with. Then crashing out in front of the box for Doctor Who...

Dreaming of the rabbit that got away earlier.....

    Merry Christmas everyone!
