Gracie - Basset with limited sight (Hope Rescue)

Post by kilmousk on Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:45 am

Gracie is a 12 month old basset hound. She is currently on foster in Chippenham, Wilts.

    The Gracie fact File
Dog status: Very good. Gracie will need to be rehomed where there are existing dogs
Cat status: Lived with cats at her emergency foster home
Child status: Could live with dog savvy children 8 yrs +
    House training: Coming along nicely
Home alone: Gracie is a very social dog and will be looking for someone who is home for the best part of the day

Little Gracie (she is a diminutive 16 kilos) has made enormous progress in her first month with her emergency foster mother and came to her new foster home having learnt to live inside (her housetraining is almost there) and walking well on a collar and lead, which she’d never encountered before. She is also excellent offlead (although since she’s a basset, this may well deteriorate as her confidence grows!)

Gracie has no sight in her right eye and is believed to have only limited vision in her left eye. However, it has no impact on her, she runs around at top speed and never bumps in to anything. She has eyedrops twice a day to keep her eyes moist which she accepts with no fuss at all.

She’s a very quiet girl, she squeaks, rather than barks, when she wants to make her feelings known. She is happy to be left for a couple of hours in the company of other dogs. She lived with cats as well in her emergency foster home.

Gracie is quite confident around other dogs, she loves running and playing with them and is always happy to say a polite hello on a walk. She is looking for a new home where she will have canine company.

She is initially shy with humans, not surprisingly since she probably rarely saw many in her first year of life, As she gains in confidence, her cheeky character is emerging. She loves a fuss and a cuddle on the sofa, both novelties to her. She is very much ‘work in progress’ and Gracie will be a very different dog in a few months time.
Gracie is looking for a kind family who will help her develop fully into a happy, confident girl. She will need a canine companion in her new home, preferably another gentle, playful dog and she would be happy to play with older, sensible children.

Gracie will be rehomed through our new Assisted Adoption scheme.
An Assisted Adoption means Hope Rescue will work in partnership with her forever family and remain responsible for veterinary bills related to her eye conditions. The adoptive family will be responsible for all other veterinary and other costs including routine procedures such as vaccinations.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from www.hoperescue.org.uk and should be returned to dogs@hoperescue.org.uk
