He looks like a big boy especially for 4 months. I have put in form for adoption.

We went to see a dog yesterday. Apparently old lady has been taken into a home so her friends are trying to find a new home for him. Despite being told he was good with other dogs (meaning males) when we put Buster in garden to play with him he attacked Buster. We now know we need to clarify when we say good with dogs we mean males. We took them to the park to see if it was a territorial thing but he continued with his attacks. Interesting thing was Buster did not retaliate he just wanted to get away from him. I have never had a yorkie who was not willing to defend himself but I guess there is a first time for everything.

Doubtless to say we did not take him home we could not put Buster through that or come to think of it ourselves. Many years ago we had a yorkie and a jack russell who were both bitches who although they both lived together for 15/16 years always had flashpoints and would end up fighting. I was a lot younger then and could deal with them.

Do you think Alfie will be ok with males dogs? Looks like he is pretty laid back in your video.

Alfie is here with my two Male dogs, one of which is quite a dominant male and he's fine with them Very Happy He is big, bouncy and a little bit pushy (like most pups) but not at all aggressive..

Well so far...Alfie is a big Yorkie, he's a bit like an overgrown teddy as he's very cuddly...for two minutes....and then he's diving all over you Very Happy He's still got all (except one) of his puppy teeth so he does occasionally catch you with them as he's playing.

He has picked a few bad habits in his 4 months of life...he jumps all over you Very Happy He runs off with your shoes/slippers Very Happy He brings his dog bowl to your feet and then tips it everywhere Very Happy He is really funny (not that he knows were laughing at him as we don't let him see Razz ) He is a typical puppy boundless energy...nothing tires him out Rolling Eyes and always looking for mischief Twisted Evil

He has had a couple of accidents in the house but more that I have missed the signals. He needs lots of time and lots of training. He does walk well on the lead (pulls slightly), he loves playing and loves attention. He is great with my children but I think he would be a bit too bouncy for very young children Rolling Eyes

I am taking him to meet my friends puppy Jasmine tomorrow, she's a bouncy Cocker Spaniel so I think they will have lots of fun together and (hopefully) tire each other out Razz

Alfie sounds a lot like Buster. I have just spent 15 mins trying to get a sock off him he hides behind the couch and whichever end I go to he goes to the other. Definately a 2 person job! I must admit the only time Buster ever has any accidents if when we are not watching. He does go to the door but if we are busy or miss him going but this is very rare now. Buster is only 8 months only and still full of energy. My husband was unwell with the flu on Saturday and did not have the energy to get him out for his usual long walk, he had to make do with a few shorter walks but boy did he have a lot of pent up energy on Saturday night. It sounds like Alfie would be the perfect companion for Buster. The 2 of them seem to have the same energy and would enjoy long walks and playing together.

    Thank you Alyshia and Nessie.

I used to have 3 yorkies Ben, Becky and Bugsy They all lived to a good age Bugsy being the last of them. I had my son not long after Bugsy died and just got tied up in motherhood and basically fotgot how pleasurable it is to have a dog. It turns out my son is the biggest animal lover on the planet and would adopt everything from hedgehogs to elephants if he could. He already has ambitions to work in dog resuce when he is older. After a lot of nagging from my son we finally relented and that is when we got Buster and to be honest he has brought back a lot of good memories of my dogs. They were memories I had put away because I thought they were too painful to face but as much as those little dogs were like my babies back then and loosing them was heartbreaking it is nice to remember the great things about them and the great times we had with them.

Such a heart warming story Very Happy The loss of a beloved pet is always hard to deal with, but the good times are always a good thing to remember. Your son sounds like a real credit to you and I wish him luck in the future Very Happy, working with and owning dogs is always soo rewarding when you see their happy faces and waggy tails Love1

Alfie is starting to settle down cheers Marley, my Yorkie is fab with young dogs and really seems to take them under his wing. When Maisy came to us, he played with her, told her off if she was naughty and really looked after her Very Happy he is doing it again with Alfie Very Happy

Alfie is desperate for human attention, when he first came he didn't mind if it was good attention or bad attention, he didn't really understand the difference between praise or the word We have been working on lots of positive re-inforcement at the moment and ignoring any unwanted behaviour and it seems to be working cheers

He can now sit, and comes in from outside when called cheers We have safety gates downstairs and at first the best game was to try and escape through them or the front door affraid That has stopped now and he also respond to 'get back' to usher him through the gate if the doorbell goes cheers

Alfie loves to play, he loves any toys, empties the toys all over the floor and throws them up in the air Razz He loves to play chase in the garden and barks the whole time he's running around..this can be quite loud so people with grumpy neighbours do need to be aware of it. This seems to be the only time he does bark though, apart from when being left (which only lasts a couple of minutes).

Alfie needs a home where somebody is going to be around 98% of the time...He is so young and has so much to learn, he needs someone to be around to teach him and bond with him He enjoys the company of the dogs, but I dont think they are essential...he would be just as happy with a human friend Very Happy He is quite rough with his doggy play at the moment so wouldn't be suitable to live with a small or gentle dog. Maisy is quite gentle and has kept out of his way. He accepts that though and doesn't push himself on her, he is also good with the oldies and keeps out of their way Very Happy

I am really impressed with how quickly he is learning and changing. He will end up being a really super little dog

Thanks for the update. He sound a lot like Buster was when when first got him at 5 month old. Buster could not be left even for a couple of minutes. We have found now if we take him out for a good long walk before we go out we can get enough time to go shopping. When we first got him we used to take him with us and one of us would sit in the car with him. My husband is a househusband so he is here all day long. Although Buster did not fight back when the yorkie attacked him the other day he is very confident with other dogs and will use his paws to "box" them. Buster weighs a stone himself so he is not a small yorkie. I think Buster and Alfie would be a perfect pair. My fingers are still crossed.

Alfie is doing really well, we have seen a huge improvement the last few days cheers He is still very bouncy, but is now much more gentle and aware of others. He enjoys praise and gets a wiggly, happy, waggy tail when you tell him he's s good boy

I have not tested his recall but he does come in quickly now when called from outside, I rattle the treat tub and he's the first one in Clapping He will sit quickly when asked to and is learning 'back', 'get down', 'settle down' and 'no' Very Happy He is more aware that the 'no' word is there for a reason and although he doesn't always stop first time, he does now stop by the second 'no' I think that that's a lot for a little dog to learn in a week and he is doing really well with it all Very Happy

He is picking up the idea of housetraining, he doesn't yet ask to go out but if I catch the signals and usher him out in time we are winning Very Happy He has been sleeping upstairs with the other dogs and sleeps through the night until 7am Very Happy Once the light goes off he is aware its sleep time and snuggles down Sleep

He loves to play chase in the garden, he is really funny with when playing and runs around the garden barking at the other dogs, he is so happy when he's doing it (and quite noisy too! lol! ) He loves toys, balls, chews, puppy toys, rag toys teddies etc. He is a toy chewer as we have found out so his new family need to be aware of that when choosing toys for him, toys must be safe if shredded, he has left the furniture alone but does enjoy a chew Twisted Evil

Alfie is much better when walking on a harness and lead cheers When he came last week it took me ages just to get the harness on him, he would roll around and squirm but now he is beginning to be more patient and understands that if he waits he can go for a walk Razz He is less nervous of the new things he sees now but his new owner will need to continue socialising him and introducing him to lots of new things. I took him to p@h the other day and he was most uncomfortable at first but eventually became more confident Very Happy

Here's a video of him playing with Marley

And these videos were taken at my friends house of him playing with her Cocker Spaniel pup Very Happy

Sounds like he is keeping you busy. He is very young and obviously has lot of energy. It is lovely to see him play in the videos. It sounds like he is adapting to his new environment. Although he does sound like a bit of a challenge (I have yet to meet a yorkie who wasn't) I am sure he will become a very loving and rewarding pet as he is still a baby as yet.

Have you had to brush him yet? How did he take it?

We took Buster to the Country Park today and he got pecked by a chicken. Once was enough he would not go near them again but he took it very well and did not retaliate. Wedid laugh but I don't think Buster found it funny. He is definately a dog that avoids trouble rather than join in.

I will give you a ring tomorrow if thats okay? It will be the afternoon?

Brushing Alfie was a challenge to say the least at the beginning of the week, I have been giving him a quick brush daily and he is getting much better to brush Very Happy I do think he will be a challenge but I also think he will be very rewarding, he is incredibly loving and really doesnt have a bad bone in his body. He is very cheeky though Razz

Alfie has had a really good day today, I've had a lot of paperwork to do for work and bless him, he slept on the settee the whole time I was working...not a peep out of him Sleep Sleep I had my glue out, scissors, pens, computer and paper everywhere and he left it all alone until I was tidying it away (and then he had a great time playing hide and seek with it all Razz )
